Best AI Girlfriend App for Privacy

We read the Google Play Data safety declaration for the seven biggest AI companion apps on 30 August 2026. Four declare third-party sharing, only two admit collecting your messages, and one says its data cannot be deleted at all.

The short answer: On 30 August 2026 we read the Data safety declaration on the US Google Play listing for the seven biggest AI companion apps. Four of the seven declare that they share data with third parties, and three declare they share none. Only two, Nomi and Kindroid, list "Messages" among the data types they collect. And one, Botify AI, is the only app of the seven whose listing says "Data can't be deleted." Every one of the other six says you can request deletion. If privacy is the thing deciding your purchase, that single line is the sharpest difference in the category.

Privacy in a companion app is not an abstract concern. You are typing the contents of your head into it: what you are worried about, who you are angry with, what you have not told anyone. The reasonable question before you pay for that is a narrow one. What does the company say it collects, who does it say it hands that to, and can you get it back out.

Google makes vendors answer exactly those questions on their own store listing, and almost nobody reads the answers. So we did, for all seven, on the same morning.

What each app declares on its US Google Play listing, read 30 August 2026

Everything in this table was read from the app's own Data safety block on its US Google Play page on 30 August 2026, taken from the app's own section rather than from the recommendations carousel further down the page. None of it comes from a review site. You can open any of these listings and read the same lines yourself in under a minute.

All seven also declare that data is encrypted in transit. That is a floor rather than a feature, and it tells you nothing about what happens to the data once it arrives.

One caveat that matters more than any row above, and Google prints it on the page itself: the developer provided this information. These are self-declarations, not audits. A company can fill the form in optimistically, and the labels are coarse enough to allow it. Treat the table as what each vendor is willing to state publicly, which is still considerably more useful than a marketing page.

The line that stands out: one app says the data can't be deleted

Six of the seven listings carry the standard line "You can request that data be deleted." Botify AI's carries "Data can't be deleted" instead. We checked it twice, from two different requests, and confirmed it sits in Botify AI's own block on the page rather than anywhere else on it.

Think about what that declaration covers in this specific category. Not a shopping history. Months of conversations in which people describe their marriages, their diagnoses, their debts and their loneliness. An app that tells its store it has no deletion path is telling you those conversations are permanent as far as it is concerned.

To be fair about the limits of what we know: this is a declaration on a store form, not a statement about what the company would do if you emailed and asked. Some vendors fill these in narrowly, some are describing a genuine technical constraint, and Ex-human, Inc, the developer on the listing, may well handle a deletion request perfectly well in practice. We have not tested that and we are not claiming otherwise. What we can say is that of seven major apps, six chose to declare a deletion path and one did not, and if you are choosing on privacy that asymmetry is worth a question in your first email to their support.

Only two of the seven admit to collecting your messages

This is the row we expected to be uniform and it was not. Google's data-type list includes a specific "Messages" category. Only Kindroid and Nomi list it. Character AI, Replika, PolyBuzz, Linky AI and Botify AI all describe their collection as "Personal info, App activity" plus unnamed others.

There is an entirely innocent explanation, and it happens to be the interesting one. Kindroid and Nomi are the two apps most often praised for genuine long-term memory, and you cannot hold months of somebody's life without storing what they said. Their declarations line up with the product they are selling. The two apps with the strongest memory reputation are the two that admit storing messages, which is honest rather than alarming.

The uncomfortable version of the same observation is that everybody else in the table is also storing your conversations, because a chatbot with any continuity at all has to, and they have filed that under a broader label. We are not accusing anyone of a false declaration; the categories are vague and different legal teams read them differently. But if you assumed that an app not listing "Messages" therefore does not keep yours, that assumption is not supported by anything on the page.

The practical takeaway for a buyer is simple. Assume every companion app stores what you type. Choose on what the company promises to do with it, and on whether you can get it deleted, rather than on whether a checkbox got ticked.

Who shares your data, and what "shares" actually means here

Four of the seven declare third-party sharing: Replika, Linky AI and Botify AI share app activity along with device identifiers or app performance data, and PolyBuzz declares it shares Location. Character AI, Kindroid and Nomi declare no third-party sharing at all.

Sharing "App activity and Device or other IDs" is the signature of an advertising and analytics stack. Your advertising ID plus a record of what you did in the app is precisely what an ad network needs to build a profile and follow you across other apps. It is ordinary, most of the mobile industry runs on it, and it is also the mechanism by which the fact that you use a companion app becomes a data point somewhere outside that companion app.

PolyBuzz is the outlier on two counts: it is the only one of the seven declaring it shares Location with third parties, and it declares the widest collection of the group, "Personal info, Financial info and 5 others." It is also one of the two largest apps in the category, with 50M+ Google Play downloads and 1.16M reviews on the day we read it. Scale and data appetite tend to travel together.

Once identifiers leave an app they are difficult to chase, which is a separate problem from choosing a better app. If your name and details have already accumulated across broker databases, the fix is on the other end, and having someone pull your personal information back out of data broker databases is a different job from picking a companion that collects less in the first place. Both are worth doing; only one of them is a purchase decision.

Best AI girlfriend app for privacy: how to actually choose

On the declarations alone, the strongest three are Kindroid, Nomi and Character AI, because all three state they share nothing with third parties. Kindroid and Nomi go further by naming Messages openly instead of filing it under a broad label. If a store declaration is your main evidence, that is where it points, and we will say so plainly even though they are competitors.

The caveats are real, though. Nomi's iOS build was still version 1.12.1 dated 31 March 2026 when we checked, five months without a shipped update while its rivals all shipped in August. Character AI carried a Teen rating on Google Play and 17+ on the US App Store on the same day, a split we have now verified three times, and its better memory sits behind the paid c.ai+ tier at $9.99 a month or $94.99 a year as listed on the company's own upgrade page on 29 August 2026. Good privacy declarations do not make an app the right product for you.

Four questions worth asking before you commit to any of them:

  • Can I delete everything, including the conversations? Ask support directly and keep the answer. The store form is a starting point, not a policy.
  • Are my chats used to train models? Almost nobody answers this clearly on a store listing, and it is the question with the most at stake. Read the actual privacy policy for the word "train".
  • Does the app carry ads or an ad SDK? If it does, the "App activity and Device or other IDs" row is describing your behaviour going somewhere else.
  • What happens if the company is acquired or shuts down? Companion apps have closed before and taken people's histories with them.

Where Gals.ai sits, stated only as far as our own privacy policy actually commits: we do not sell personal data, we do not use private conversations to train advertising or to target you with ads, and we do not hand chats to data brokers or marketers. You can review, export, edit and permanently delete your memories and account data. We collect your email and settings, the messages you exchange with her, and standard technical details such as device type and approximate region. There is no checkout open yet, so nothing here can charge you today, and the demo is free to try without signing up.

One thing we will not claim, because it is not in our policy: we are not going to tell you conversations are never used for model training when the document does not say that. Every other page you read on this subject should be held to the same test. If a company will not write it down, it has not promised it.

The honest summary

Privacy in this category is decided by three things, and only one of them is visible on a store page. What the company collects, who it hands it to, and whether you can make it stop. The Data safety block answers the first two roughly and the third precisely, which is why the Botify AI line is the most useful sentence in this entire comparison.

If you want the short version: prefer apps that declare no third-party sharing, be suspicious of any app that will not commit to deleting your data, and assume every one of them stores what you type regardless of what the form says. Then choose on the product, because a companion you do not enjoy talking to is a privacy risk you took for nothing.
