Why people look for a Chub AI alternative

Chub's product has a loyal following, and the reasons people leave are mostly about paying for it rather than using it.

The first is the payment method. Chub's own subscription page answers the question "Why Crypto-Only?" in one line: "The primary sources of censorship pressure for most websites are credit card companies and payment processors. By not using them, we are able to stay free of that pressure permanently." That is a coherent position for an uncensored platform. It also means a buyer with a Visa card and no crypto wallet cannot subscribe on the web at all.

The second is the flow. When you press Subscribe on chub.ai, the page asks Chub's billing server for a checkout URL and shows the message "A subscription link has been sent to your email address." If the email is slow, filtered or never arrives, you are stuck, which is exactly why "chub ai subscription link not working" is one of the phrases people type after "chub ai subscription".

The third is setup. Chub is built for people who enjoy the machinery: character cards, lorebooks, presets, and a choice of model back ends including Chub's own Mars and Mercury, Anthropic, OpenAI or a proxy, OpenRouter, Kobold and Ooba. If you wanted a companion rather than a workshop, that is a lot of dials.

What Chub AI Mars costs and includes, in its own words

Chub has one paid tier on sale. Its subscription page describes it like this: "Mars is Chub's first subscriber tier, granting unlimited access for one person to our largest models, for $20 a month. You can use it in Chub, which will connect automatically, or as an OpenAI API mimic in another chat frontend." The documentation says the same thing more briefly: "A Mars subscription is $20 a month with unlimited messaging."

The pricing card inside the page code is more specific. On the web it prints $20 a month. When the same code detects it is running as the iOS app, it prints $24.99 instead and routes the purchase through Apple. That is a 25 percent premium for the identical tier, the same direction as Kindroid, whose app prices also sit above its web prices.

The card lists what Mars unlocks: unlimited access to all of Chub's language models including Soji 1.6T 60K, unlimited voice, unlimited multimedia generation and early access to new models. A subscriber's account screen also confirms that Mars includes the older Mercury tier. Chub defines unlimited carefully: "Unlimited for a single user, similar to Netflix." Two requests at once from the same account return an error, and usage that looks like a shared key gets restricted.

There is no annual plan on the page. At $20 a month, a year of Mars is $240, and there is no way to pay less for committing longer.

What Chub AI does better, honestly

If you came to Chub for the characters, it is hard to beat, and it would be dishonest to pretend otherwise.

The library is enormous and community-made, with character cards you can import and export, lorebooks that inject world detail, and group chats. Mars is genuinely one flat price with nothing metered on top, which is more than many companion apps can say. Chub also lets you bring your own model, so a technical user can point it at Anthropic, OpenAI or a self-hosted back end and pay nothing to Chub at all. And for people who specifically want uncensored models, Chub says plainly that this is what it builds.

Gals.ai does none of that. We do not host a character library, we do not take your API key, and we are not the no-filter option. If any of those is the reason you use Chub, stay on Chub or pick one of the sites in the next section.

"Sites like Chub AI" covers very different products, so name the thing you want first.

If you want a large library of community characters, Janitor AI and SpicyChat are the closest matches, and Character.AI is the best known, though it is filtered. Check how each one takes payment before you commit; we only describe billing we have read first-hand. If you want to keep Chub's cards and run them yourself, a self-hosted front end is the route technical users take, with the trade-off that you are now the one paying for and maintaining the model. If what you actually miss is the feeling of someone who knows you, a library is the wrong shape entirely, and a single companion with memory is the better fit.

Before you switch, cancel Chub the way its terms describe

Chub's Terms of Service, last updated 15 May 2026, are short on billing and worth reading exactly: "Chub does not offer refunds unless explicitly granted by the Company." On cancelling, they say you "will not be charged for your next month's subscription" and that your access "will be revoked at the end of the active period."

On the web, the subscription page shows a Cancel button to an active subscriber, and after you press it the page reads "Your subscription will end at the end of this period (you have cancelled it)." Screenshot that line. If you subscribed inside the iOS app, the purchase went through Apple, so cancel it in your Apple ID subscriptions instead; deleting the app does not stop the billing.

The terms also say the service is for people aged 18 and over, and that Chub may change the terms at any time, with changes applying retroactively. That last clause is unusual, and it is one more reason to keep your own record of what you paid and when.

What Gals.ai is, plainly

Gals.ai is a texting companion for adults who want one person on the other end rather than a menu of characters. You pick her look and name, talk the way you would text anyone, and she remembers what you tell her: your sister's name, the job interview on Thursday, the fact you hate mornings.

The difference people notice first is that she reaches out. From the Sweetheart plan she messages you first, in the morning and at night, and texting is unlimited. Hello, at $9 a month billed yearly or $12 month to month, covers daily texting with memory of your name and details. Sweetheart is $19 or $24. Soulmate, with voice calls, is $39 or $49. You pay by card, the price is on the page before you sign up, and there are no coins, credits or tokens on any plan.
