This is the version of the question with a real technical answer, and SpicyChat has kindly published the numbers that prove it.

Its documentation lists the maximum conversation context per tier: up to 4,096 tokens on the free and entry tier, up to 8,192 on True Supporter, up to 16,384 on I am All In. It then says plainly that the system keeps the most recent messages, that older messages may drop out, and that once a message is outside the current context window the AI may no longer use it. Tokens are not words; the usual rule of thumb is about three quarters of a word each. So the free ceiling is roughly 3,000 words of back and forth, and the top tier roughly 12,000. A single absorbing evening can spend the free one.

That is the whole explanation for the two most common complaints about every platform in this group. The character contradicts herself because the earlier version scrolled out of view. She forgets your name because your name was mentioned four hundred messages ago and no longer exists as far as the model is concerned. No prompt fixes this, and upgrading a tier only buys you a longer runway before the same thing happens.

Companion apps take a different approach. Facts about you are extracted and stored as facts, kept outside the running conversation, and retrieved when relevant. The conversation still has a context window, because every model does, but what the app knows about you is no longer trapped inside it. What is SpicyChat AI?

SpicyChat is a browser-based AI roleplay platform built around characters its users write and publish. You browse a library, pick a bot, and chat. Its docs describe more than ten models available across different tiers, with its most advanced option reserved for the top subscription, and an option to plug in your own API key if you want better responses than your tier provides.

The feature set is genuinely deep for roleplay specifically. Lorebooks let you define world facts that get injected when relevant, which is the closest thing the library category has to authored canon. Group chat puts several characters in one scene. Director mode lets you steer the narration rather than only speaking in character. If you are writing collaborative fiction rather than looking for a relationship, that toolkit is a real reason to be there.

Content policy is permissive, and the docs are candid about it: the platform sorts bots into SFW and NSFW for front-page placement, and its FAQ states that bots labelled SFW can still engage in NSFW roleplay. Is SpicyChat AI free?

Free to use, yes, with the limits published rather than hidden, which is more than most of this category manages.

The free tier runs at up to 4,096 tokens of context and caps each reply at up to 180 tokens, which is a short paragraph. The entry paid tier is named Get A Taste and its listed benefit is removing ads, which tells you what the free experience includes. True Supporter raises the reply cap to 300 tokens, doubles context to 8,192 and unlocks advanced models plus conversation images. I am All In goes to 16,384 tokens, adds the top model and puts you at the front of the generation queue. We are not quoting prices here because they move; check the tiers in the app.

Does SpicyChat have an official app?

This one is worth getting right, because searching an app store for it will mislead you.

SpicyChat documentation states that it has no native iOS app on the Apple App Store. If you installed one before it was removed, the docs say that version is no longer updated and offers a degraded experience, and they recommend adding the web version to your home screen instead. On Android there is an official app, but it is a direct APK download from SpicyChat own site rather than a Google Play listing.

So the practical warning is this: as of August 2026, a US App Store search for the name returns roleplay apps published by unrelated third-party developers, not the platform people mean when they say SpicyChat. Those are different products from different companies with different privacy practices. Installing one because the name matched is a real and easy mistake to make.

The general lesson applies well beyond this platform. In a category where the web product is often the real one, verify the developer name against the vendor own documentation before you install anything and before you type anything personal into it.

Where SpicyChat beats the alternatives

Three things, and none of them are small.

The first is transparency. SpicyChat publishes its context ceilings, its reply caps and its tier contents in documentation anyone can read. Almost nobody else in this category does, including several apps with far better reputations. When we needed real numbers for this page, they were simply there. That deserves saying out loud.

The second is the roleplay toolkit. Lorebooks, group chat and director mode are built for people writing scenes rather than sending texts, and they are better tools for that job than anything a companion app offers. We do not have them and are not building them.

The third is the content policy. It is permissive in a way that is increasingly rare as US companion-AI rules tighten, and it is straightforward about being so. If that is what you came for, no page on this site is going to talk you out of it, and it would be dishonest to try.
