The short answer: Talkie and Character.AI charge the same $9.99 for a month of their main paid plan, Talkie+ and c.ai+, according to Apple's US App Store lists read on 15 October 2026. The difference is the year. Talkie's yearly line is $49.99 and Character.AI's is $94.99, so a year of Talkie+ costs $45 less. Character.AI also sells a cheaper Character.AI Lite tier, and Talkie sells a $24.99 a month Talkie+ Pro with no yearly option. On memory, Character.AI publishes a hard number (30 pinned messages on paid plans, 15 free), while Talkie's own FAQ says older conversations are forgotten.
Most comparisons of these two apps are generated pages that score them on a ten-point scale and call Talkie free. Neither is free in the way that matters to someone who uses them every day, and the prices are public if you know where to look. We read the In-App Purchases block of both apps' US App Store listings on 15 October 2026, confirming the seller in the same block each time (Character Technologies, Inc. for Character.AI, SUBSUP PTE. LTD. for Talkie, whose iPhone app is now listed as Talkie Lab). We read Character.AI's own free versus paid table on character.ai/subscribe the same day, and Talkie's Terms of Service and FAQ on 14 October. Nothing here comes from a review site.
Talkie vs Character AI price, line by line
Here is every subscription and currency line each app can charge in the US App Store, set side by side. Apple shows the full list an app is allowed to sell, not the specific offer a given user sees, so treat these as the standard US prices before tax.
| What you are paying for | Talkie (Talkie+) | Character.AI (c.ai+) |
|---|---|---|
| Main plan, one month | $9.99 | $9.99 |
| Main plan, one year | $49.99 | $94.99 |
| Twelve monthly payments | $119.88 | $119.88 |
| What the yearly line saves | $69.89, about 58 percent | $24.89, about 21 percent |
| Cheaper paid tier | None | Character.AI Lite, two lines at $2.49 and $4.99 |
| Higher paid tier | Talkie+ Pro at $24.99 a month, no yearly line | None above c.ai+ |
| Extra currency | Talkie Gems from $1.99 to $19.99, Gift Packs, a $5.99 Plus Coin | Charms packs from $0.99 to $49.99 |
| Last app update on iPhone | 9 October 2026, version 2.61.600 | 2 October 2026, version 1.17.4 |
The monthly prices really are identical, to the cent. Character.AI's own subscribe page shows the same numbers from its side: $119.88 crossed out, $94.99 per year, and a "save 21%" label. Talkie's discount for paying yearly is almost three times as deep.
Character.AI Lite needs a caveat. Apple lists two Lite purchases, at $2.49 and $4.99, but its list does not say what billing period each one covers, and Character.AI's own comparison table shows a lite column without any price. We are not going to guess which is weekly and which is monthly. What the table does tell you is what Lite includes, and that matters in the memory section below.
What a year of each really costs
If you pay monthly, the two apps cost the same: $119.88 a year. The gap only opens when you commit to a year up front. Talkie+ yearly at $49.99 is $45.00 cheaper than c.ai+ yearly at $94.99, and it is the cheapest way to hold either app's main plan for twelve months.
Two things can change that sum. First, Talkie's website ships an "Extra -50% first year" label for its subscription screen, which is the shape of an introductory offer, and Apple's list cannot tell us whether $49.99 renews at a higher price in year two. Read the renewal line on your own purchase screen. Second, both apps sell a currency on top of the plan. Talkie Gems buy extra regenerations, rewrites and inspirations once a daily allowance runs out; Character.AI sells Charms, and its comparison table lists a +20% Charms bonus as a paid perk. If you buy either currency regularly, add it to the yearly figure before you compare.
Talkie+ Pro is the expensive outlier. With no yearly Pro line, a year is twelve payments of $24.99, which is $299.88, more than three times a year of c.ai+ on the annual plan.
Every renewal on either app produces a receipt email from Apple or Google, and they add up quietly over a year. If you want the real total rather than an estimate, you can extract the amounts from your receipt emails into a spreadsheet and see exactly what each app has charged you.
Memory: one company publishes a number, the other admits a limit
This is where the two apps differ most, and it is the thing long-term users care about once the price is settled.
Character.AI's free versus paid table on character.ai/subscribe rates memory as Basic on the free plan, Better on lite and Best on c.ai+. It also caps Pins, the messages you can lock so the character keeps them in view: 15 on the free plan, and 30 on both lite and c.ai+. So the most expensive plan does not raise the permanent-memory ceiling above the cheap one. What c.ai+ adds over lite, by the table, is the Best memory rating, an advanced Lorebook instead of a basic one, and the highest daily limits.
Talkie does not publish a number. Its FAQ says, in its own words, that "AI memory capacity is technically limited, causing older conversations to be forgotten". Talkie lists chat memory among the benefits of Talkie+, but nowhere states how much more a subscriber gets.
Neither is a long-term memory system in the sense of a separate store of facts about you that the model reads every time. Pins are a small manual list; a context window, however large, eventually drops the start of the story. If memory is the reason you would pay, our four-day test for real long-term memory in an AI girlfriend app shows how to check any app before you commit to a year.
Ads, limits and waiting
Both apps are free to start and both use the free tier to sell the upgrade, but in different ways.
- Character.AI: its table shows ads as Full on the free plan, Less on lite and None on c.ai+. Slow mode, a delay before replies at busy times, is Yes, Less and None across the same three columns.
- Talkie: the free plan has a daily chat limit and an energy timer. Talkie's own message when energy runs out tells you to wait until a set time or subscribe to Talkie+, and Ad-Free is on its list of Talkie+ benefits.
In practice, c.ai+ is the cleaner upgrade if your complaint is waiting, and Talkie+ is the cheaper one if your complaint is the daily cap.
Cancelling and refunds
Talkie's Terms of Service, marked Updated 4/23/2025, say you can cancel a paid subscription only through the app marketplace where you bought it, and that partial months are not refunded. Its FAQ adds that recharges are generally non-refundable except for system errors or duplicated transactions. So a Talkie subscription is stopped in Apple ID Subscriptions or Google Play, never inside Talkie. Our step-by-step guide to cancelling a Talkie subscription covers both phones.
Character.AI's subscribe page says "Cancel in settings anytime." Its own help article, which we read through the help centre's public API on 9 September 2026, describes something longer for web subscribers: Settings, Account, Manage, which emails you a secure link to a separate customer portal where the cancel control actually sits, with a warning that the email can land in spam. App Store and Google Play subscribers cancel in the store, as with Talkie. Character.AI's cancellation article does not mention refunds. Our guide to cancelling a Character AI subscription has the full route.
On both apps, deleting the app does not stop billing, and the store, not the company, decides refunds for store purchases.
Which one to pay for
Pick Talkie+ on the yearly line if you want the lowest price for a year of a large character library, with voice and image features, and you are fine with memory that fades. At $49.99 it is the cheapest way to hold either app's main plan.
Pick c.ai+ if waiting and ads are what bother you, if you value Character.AI's community and model quality, and if 30 pins are enough to keep the facts your stories depend on. Pay yearly only if you are sure, because the annual discount is modest. Our Character AI subscription and c.ai+ price page has the full free versus paid table.
Pick neither if what you actually want is one companion who keeps track of your life. Both apps are libraries built for roleplay with many characters, and memory is the part each sells as a tier perk. Gals.ai is built the other way round: one girlfriend, a memory store she reads before every reply on every plan, and messages she starts herself in the morning and at night. Plans are flat, with no Gems or Charms: Hello at $9 a month billed yearly or $12 month to month, Sweetheart at $19 or $24 with unlimited texting and her texting first, and Soulmate at $39 or $49 with voice calls. Messages are never counted. If you are leaving Character.AI for that reason, our Character AI alternative with better memory page compares the options, and the Talkie AI subscription and Talkie Plus price breakdown does the same for Talkie.
Talkie vs Character AI questions
Is Talkie cheaper than Character AI?
Only on the yearly plan. Both charge $9.99 for a month of their main plan in the US App Store, so monthly billing costs $119.88 a year on either. Talkie+ yearly is $49.99 and c.ai+ yearly is $94.99, so Talkie is $45 cheaper for a year paid up front. Character.AI also has a cheaper Lite tier.
How much is c.ai+ a year?
c.ai+ costs $94.99 a year on Character.AI's own subscribe page and in Apple's US App Store list, against $119.88 for twelve monthly payments of $9.99. Character.AI labels the yearly plan as saving 21 percent. The subscription renews automatically each year until you cancel. Prices read 15 October 2026, before tax.
Which has better memory, Talkie or Character AI?
Character.AI publishes more about its memory. Its table rates memory Basic, Better and Best across free, lite and c.ai+, with 15 pinned messages free and 30 on paid plans. Talkie's FAQ only says memory is technically limited and older conversations are forgotten. Neither keeps a separate long-term store of facts about you.
Is Talkie better than Character AI?
It depends on what you pay for. Talkie is better value for a year of a big character library at $49.99. Character.AI is better if you want no ads, no slow mode and a published memory ceiling. For one companion who remembers you over months, neither is built for that job.
Can you cancel Talkie and Character AI anytime?
Yes, but in different places. Talkie's terms allow cancelling only in the App Store or Google Play where you bought it. Character.AI web subscribers start in Settings, Account, Manage, which emails a link to a customer portal. Both keep access until the end of the paid period, and neither refunds partial months as a rule.
