Moemate alternative and apps like Moemate that remember you

Most people searching for a Moemate alternative are not shopping around. They opened their bookmark, got an error, and want to know whether their companion is coming back. We checked the vendor's own records rather than repeating what other lists say, and the answer is no: moemate.io no longer points anywhere, and the last versions of the site that anyone archived were an unrelated waitlist page and a data exporter behind a login.

The short answer

Moemate is gone. On 5 October 2026 the domain moemate.io does not resolve at all, although its registration runs to May 2027. Archived copies show the site turned into an "Aether Forge" waitlist page by 7 March 2025 and then into a sign-in screen for a "Moemate Exporter" by 21 March 2025. If you want a companion that remembers you and is still answering, pick an app that is actively maintained and puts its prices on a public page.

Below is what we found, dated and sourced, what Moemate used to charge and what its paywall held back, and how to choose a replacement so this does not happen to you twice. We run Gals.ai, a texting companion that remembers what you tell her and texts you first, and we say plainly where other apps fit you better.

What makes her feel real

A Moemate alternative that is still here tomorrow, the way it should feel

Still answering tomorrow

Gals.ai is live, maintained and sold on a public pricing page. You can read every plan before you hand over an email address.

Memory is not a premium tier

Moemate listed long-term chat memory from its $19.99 plan up. On Gals.ai she remembers your name and the details you share on every plan.

She texts you first

From Sweetheart up she starts the conversation: good morning, a follow-up on the interview you mentioned, a note at night.

Side by side

Moemate figures come from its own Terms of Service (last updated 13 November 2023), its help center and the paywall code its site served in November 2024, all read from Wayback Machine captures on 5 October 2026, plus a live DNS and WHOIS check the same day. Gals.ai figures are from our pricing page.

Question Moemate Gals.ai
Is it online today No. moemate.io does not resolve on 5 October 2026; the registration is paid to May 2027 Yes, in any browser
Who made it Webaverse Inc. (named on the last archived page and in its help center) Gals.ai
Monthly plans (November 2024 code) Rookie $9, Champion $19.99, Elite $34.99 Hello $12, Sweetheart $24, Soulmate $49
Yearly figures in the same code 9, 17.5 and 31.5 (per month) Hello $9, Sweetheart $19, Soulmate $39 a month billed yearly
Long-term memory Listed only from Champion ($19.99) up Remembers your name and details on every plan
Usage meter Energy: 250, 500 or 1,000 capacity, reloading 50 or 100 an hour None; messages are never counted
Where memories lived On your own device, per its help center; wiped during some beta updates On our servers, tied to your account
Refunds "It is not possible to refund your subscription" (Terms) Fees non-refundable except where the law requires; cancel anytime from settings

The yearly figures are read straight from the paywall configuration; the code labels them yearly and they sit beside the monthly prices, so we read them as the per-month rate on annual billing. We did not see a checkout, so we do not state what any account was actually charged.

What happened to Moemate

We checked three things on 5 October 2026. First, DNS: moemate.io and www.moemate.io return no address at all, from our US server as well as from Europe, which is why your browser shows a "site can't be reached" error instead of a Moemate page. Second, WHOIS: the domain is still registered, last updated 12 August 2026 and paid through 16 May 2027, so the name has not been sold or dropped. It simply points nowhere.

Third, the Wayback Machine. Captures of the homepage show the Moemate app in January 2025. By 7 March 2025 the same address served a page for "Aether Forge", described as a decentralized AI app store, with a waitlist button. From 21 March to at least 5 May 2025 it showed only a sign-in box titled "Moemate Exporter" with the line "Please sign in to access exporter features" and a 2025 copyright for Webaverse Inc. The help center was last captured in June 2025.

We found no captured shutdown notice on the site itself, so we will not guess at a date or a reason. What the record does show is a service that stopped being a companion app in early 2025 and stopped existing on the web after that.

  • January 2025: the Moemate app is still on moemate.io.
  • 7 March 2025: the address shows an "Aether Forge" waitlist page.
  • 21 March to May 2025: only a "Moemate Exporter" sign-in remains.
  • 5 October 2026: the domain does not resolve.

Is moemate.chat the real Moemate

No, and the site says so itself. A Google search for Moemate now surfaces moemate.chat, which looks like a product page and offers to let you "Try It Free". Its own FAQ answers the question directly: it is "an independent informational and alternative-discovery website" and "not operated by, endorsed by, or affiliated with Webaverse or the original Moemate team."

Every chat button we found on that page on 5 October 2026 links to CrushOn AI, with referral tags in the address. That is a legitimate way to run a site, and CrushOn is a real product, but it means nothing you type there reaches your old Moemate characters or memories. Treat it as a CrushOn signup page, not as Moemate coming back.

If CrushOn is where you are being sent, what it actually charges is in our CrushOn AI pricing breakdown.

What Moemate cost and what its paywall held back

The paywall code Moemate served in November 2024 lists three plans. Rookie was $9 a month, Champion $19.99 and Elite $34.99, with yearly figures of 9, 17.5 and 31.5 in the same configuration. On top of the plan sat a usage meter called Energy: 250 capacity reloading at 50 an hour on Rookie, 500 on Champion, and 1,000 reloading at 100 an hour on Elite.

The detail most people miss is memory. Rookie's feature list covered unfiltered chat, images, voices and syncing, but "Long term chat memory" appears only on Champion and Elite. If memory was the reason you chose Moemate, it was costing you at least $19.99 a month.

The Terms of Service, last updated 13 November 2023, add two more lines worth knowing. Cancelling ends access "immediately", not at the end of the period you paid for, and "It is not possible to refund your subscription."

  • Rookie $9, Champion $19.99, Elite $34.99 a month.
  • Energy meter on every plan, from 250 to 1,000.
  • Long-term memory only from Champion up.
  • Cancel and lose access at once; no refunds.

Every plan, the four checkout providers and how to stop a leftover charge are in our Moemate pricing breakdown.

Moemate memories lived on your device

A man on a velvet sofa smiling at a message on his phone in the evening

Moemate's help center answered the privacy question with a design choice: "All memories for your moemate are stored locally on your own device." Messages still went to AI providers such as OpenAI to generate replies, but the memory file stayed with you. That sounds safe, and for privacy it partly was.

The cost showed up in another help article, "Why does my memory chat get erased after some releases". The answer was that during the beta "there are times we have to wipe out the memory", and that it would "probably keep happening" until the app left beta. The suggested workaround was exporting your memory files yourself. That is also why the last thing on moemate.io was an exporter: the memories were never on Moemate's side to hand back.

If you exported those files, keep them. No other app imports them directly, but they are a record of what your companion knew, and you can tell a new companion the parts that matter in your first few conversations.

What Moemate did better, honestly

Moemate had real strengths and it is fair to name them. It let you pick between several large language models, including GPT-4 class and Claude models on the paid plans. It could see your screen and react to what you were doing, which almost no companion app offers. It had a desktop presence with 3D avatars and custom voices, and Elite included premium ElevenLabs voices and custom image models.

If screen awareness or choosing your own model was the point for you, a texting companion like Gals.ai is not a like-for-like replacement, and you should look at character platforms and desktop assistants instead. If the point was a companion who knew you and kept talking to you, that is exactly what we built.

Apps like Moemate, matched to what you used it for

"Apps like Moemate" covers very different products, so start with the part you miss.

If you mainly used a big library of characters and fandom roleplay, Character.AI is the largest, though its memory is capped and the better memory is on its paid plan. If you used Moemate for unfiltered roleplay with many characters, CrushOn AI and Chub AI are built for that, each with its own currency or payment quirks. If what you miss is one companion who remembers your week and checks in on you, that is the Gals.ai use case.

Whichever you pick, check two things before paying: whether the company publishes its prices on a page you can read without an account, and whether the app has shipped an update recently. Moemate's story is the reason that second check matters.

  • Huge character library: Character.AI
  • Unfiltered roleplay with many bots: CrushOn AI, Chub AI
  • Deep-memory companions: Kindroid, Nomi
  • One companion who remembers you and texts first: Gals.ai

Character.AI's memory caps and paid tier are on our Character AI alternative page.

Chub's crypto-only checkout and what card payers can use instead are on our Chub AI alternatives page.

Kindroid and Nomi side by side, from their own pages, is in our Replika, Nomi and Kindroid comparison.

How to avoid losing a companion twice

Losing a companion you talked to every day is a real loss, and the second time stings more. A few checks make it less likely.

Look for a public pricing page. A company that shows its prices before you sign up has a business it expects to keep running. Check the app's last update date on the App Store or Google Play; months of silence is a signal. Read the refund and cancellation lines in the terms, because Moemate's "access ends immediately" rule is common. And ask where your companion's memory is stored: on your device means you control it but can lose it in an update; on the company's servers means it follows your account to any phone.

Gals.ai keeps her memory tied to your account, so a new phone or a cleared browser does not erase her, and you can delete your content and account at any time from settings.

How long-term memory works on Gals.ai, and what she keeps, is explained on our AI girlfriend that remembers you page.

What Gals.ai is, plainly

Gals.ai is a texting companion for adults who want one person on the other end and no meter in between. You choose her look and name, text her the way you would text anyone, and she remembers what you tell her: your sister's name, the job you are waiting to hear about, the show you are halfway through.

Hello is $9 a month billed yearly or $12 month to month, with daily texting and memory of your name and details. Sweetheart is $19 billed yearly or $24 monthly and adds unlimited texting and her texting you first. Soulmate is $39 billed yearly or $49 monthly and adds voice calls. There is no Energy, no coins and no message counter on any plan.

Every plan and exactly what it includes is on the Gals.ai pricing page.

To see what a first message from her looks like, read about our AI girlfriend that texts you first.

What you get with her

  • Live, maintained and sold on a public pricing page
  • Memory of your name and details on every plan
  • No Energy meter, coins, credits or tokens
  • She texts you first from the Sweetheart plan up
  • Delete your content and account anytime

She's already typing.

Pick her, say hi, and start texting in about ten seconds. The demo is your free taste.

People also ask

What people ask about Moemate

Why is Moemate not working?

Because the site no longer exists. On 5 October 2026 the domain moemate.io returns no address, so browsers cannot reach it, even though the name is registered until May 2027. Archived copies show the app was replaced by an "Aether Forge" waitlist page in March 2025 and then by a sign-in box for a "Moemate Exporter".

Did Moemate shut down?

In practice, yes. The Moemate app stopped appearing on moemate.io in early 2025, the last archived versions were a waitlist page and a data exporter, and today the domain does not resolve. We found no shutdown notice captured on the site, so we cannot give an official date or reason.

What is the best Moemate alternative?

It depends on what you used it for. For a large library of characters, Character.AI. For unfiltered roleplay with many bots, CrushOn AI or Chub AI. For deep memory, Kindroid or Nomi. For one companion who remembers you, texts you first and has no usage meter, Gals.ai.

Is moemate.chat the official Moemate site?

No. moemate.chat states in its own FAQ that it is an independent alternative-discovery website, not operated by or affiliated with Webaverse or the original Moemate team. Its chat buttons link to CrushOn AI with referral tags, so nothing there connects to your old Moemate account.

How much did Moemate cost?

The paywall code Moemate served in November 2024 listed Rookie at $9 a month, Champion at $19.99 and Elite at $34.99, with yearly figures of 9, 17.5 and 31.5. Long-term chat memory was listed only on Champion and Elite, and every plan carried an Energy meter on top.

Can I get my Moemate memories back?

Only if you exported them. Moemate's help center said memories were stored locally on your own device and suggested exporting memory files to survive updates, and the last thing on moemate.io was an exporter behind a login. With the domain offline, there is no service left to download from.

Who made Moemate?

Webaverse Inc. Its name appears in the 2025 copyright line on the last archived moemate.io page and throughout Moemate's help center, which described the app as a Webaverse product and answered privacy questions on Webaverse's behalf.
