What Anima AI charges and which plan is the trap

Anima's web app carries its own price labels for the plan screen: one month at $9.99, one year at $39.99, and a lifetime plan at $99.99 that some versions of the app call Unlimited instead. The same text has slots for one week, three months and six months with the price left blank, and its subscription terms confirm the subscription can renew "each week, month, 6 months, year, or otherwise".

The arithmetic is simple and it is the most useful thing on this page. Twelve monthly payments of $9.99 come to $119.88, almost exactly three times the $39.99 yearly price. The lifetime plan costs the same as two and a half years of the yearly one. If you are going to stay longer than a few weeks, the monthly plan is the expensive way to pay for Anima.

Two caveats from Anima's own material. Its live paywall loads offers from a server that needs a login, so your screen can show different numbers than the labels. And its terms say it may change subscription fees at any time with reasonable notice. On Google Play, the listing shows in-app purchases from $0.99 to $199.99 per item, so there is more on sale than the three labelled plans.

Anima AI on the App Store and on iPhone

Not in the US, as far as Apple's own store will tell you. Anima's homepage and its legal pages link to one iPhone app, ID 1537239242. On 13 October 2026 that link returned a 404 from apps.apple.com in the US storefront, and so did an app ID we made up as a control, while Kindroid's listing on the same request pattern returned the full page. Apple's lookup service returned zero results for Anima's ID in the US, UK, German and Canadian stores. A second read through a different fetcher gave the same 404.

We cannot tell you why it is gone, and it may come back. What it means for you today is concrete. If you are on an iPhone, you cannot download Anima from the App Store, and if you subscribed through Apple years ago, your subscription still lives in your Apple account settings, where you can see and cancel it even though the store page is gone.

Anima also runs a web app at myanima.ai, so an iPhone user can still reach it in Safari. That is the same route Gals.ai uses for everyone: no store, no download, the same account on every device.

Does Anima AI remember you

Anima says the more you chat, the more your Anima learns about you, and that her personality is shaped by your daily conversations. That is a fair description of a companion that adapts its style. It is not the same as keeping a record of your life: Anima publishes no memory feature list, no limit and no setting you can inspect, so there is nothing to check before you pay.

The free tier is the other thing people notice. The app's own text tells you when you have "hit the limit of 5 free voice messages", and photo replies sit behind an "Unlock Unlimited pics" button. One Google Play reviewer in August 2026 described most messages being locked in a blur until you pay. That is a normal freemium design, and you should simply know it is coming.

How to cancel an Anima subscription

It depends on where you paid, and Anima's subscription terms spell it out. If you subscribed on the App Store, cancel in your Apple ID subscriptions; on Google Play, in Play's Payments and subscriptions; on Huawei AppGallery, in your Huawei account. Refunds for store purchases are requested from Apple or Google, not from Anima.

If you subscribed on Anima's website, there is no cancel button described in the terms. The instruction is to cancel "by contacting our support" by email. Send the email from the address on your account, ask for the subscription and auto-renewal to be cancelled, and keep the reply. Anima's terms also note that deleting the app does not cancel anything, and that you keep paid features until the end of the period.

EU, EEA, UK and Swiss residents get a 14-day withdrawal right in the same terms. US buyers do not, so the date you cancel matters.

What Anima AI does better

Anima is cheap if you pay yearly. $39.99 a year is less than half of our cheapest yearly plan, and the lifetime option means you can pay once and stop thinking about it. It has a long history, more than a million Android installs and nearly 40,000 Play reviews averaging 4.0, which tells you a lot of people found it worth keeping.

It also does things we do not try to do. You can pick a friend, girlfriend or boyfriend relationship, take personality tests together, and use it partly as a self-help coach, which is how its Play description pitches it. Its Play listing is rated Everyone, and Anima says you can request deletion of your data.

Where Gals.ai fits better is a companion who works on every phone, keeps a real record of your life, starts the conversation herself and never puts the chat behind a blur.

Which apps like Anima AI fit which reason for leaving

Pick the alternative by the thing that pushed you out. If you liked Anima as a friend and a coach, Replika is the closest in spirit and has been around even longer. If you wanted deeper memory and more control over your companion's backstory, Kindroid and Nomi both put memory first and both are on iPhone. If you wanted a big library of characters and roleplay, Character.AI and its alternatives are a different kind of app altogether.
