AI girlfriend cost: pricing and subscriptions compared
Working out what an AI girlfriend costs is harder than it should be, and not because the apps are expensive. It is because the price is usually behind a signup wall. Search the question and you get a dozen comparison tables that confidently list tier names and monthly figures, all slightly different from each other, none of them linking to a vendor page you can check.

The short answer
Last updated August 2026
Most AI girlfriend apps sit between $5 and $30 a month, and the serious paid tiers cluster between $9 and $20. The number on a review site is often unverifiable, because we checked the four best known vendors on 22 August 2026 and none of them publishes a public pricing page you can open without signing up. The structure matters more than the headline figure: a flat subscription costs the same on your heaviest night, while a credit or coin model bills you most on the nights you use it most.
So this page does two things. It explains the two pricing structures that actually exist in this category and what each one does to your bill, and it shows you how to establish a real number for any app in about ten minutes. Where we cannot verify a competitor's exact price, we say so instead of copying it from someone else.
What makes her feel real
AI girlfriend cost, the way it should feel
Flat beats metered
A flat subscription charges the same whether you send ten messages or four hundred. A credit model charges most on the night you talk longest, which is the night you least want a meter running.
The sticker price is half the story
Plenty of apps advertise a low monthly tier and then sell coins for images, voice notes and long conversations. The advertised number is a floor, not a total.
Verify before you pay
If you cannot see a price without handing over a card, treat every figure you read about that app, including ours, as unconfirmed until you see it yourself.
Side by side
Which AI girlfriend apps publish a price you can actually open, checked 22 August 2026
We requested the seven most common pricing URLs (/pricing, /plans, /subscription, /premium, /upgrade, /billing and /pricing.html) on each domain and recorded what came back. This is the reason the pricing tables you find elsewhere disagree with each other: for most of these apps there is no primary source to copy from.
| App | Public pricing page on 22 Aug 2026 | Where the price actually appears |
|---|---|---|
| Replika | No. Every path tested returned 404 or an error | Inside the app, after you create an account |
| Nomi AI | No. All seven paths returned 404 | Inside the app, on the upgrade screen |
| Kindroid | No. All seven paths returned 404 | Inside the app, after signup |
| Candy AI | No standalone page. Every path silently serves the homepage | In the app, at the point of upgrade |
| Gals.ai | Yes, at /pricing, with every tier listed | On the page, before you give an email address |
Checked by requesting each URL directly on 22 August 2026. Vendors change their sites often, so re-check before relying on this.
How much does an AI girlfriend cost per month?
Across the category, paid plans run from about $5 to about $30 a month, and the tiers that include real long-term memory and voice tend to land between $9 and $20. Budget apps advertise lower, sometimes near $3, and credit-metered platforms can run far higher in practice than their advertised tier suggests.
We are deliberately giving you bands rather than a table of exact competitor prices. The reason is in the table above: we could not open a public pricing page for Replika, Nomi, Kindroid or Candy AI on 22 August 2026, so any precise figure we printed would be copied from another article rather than verified. Bands we can stand behind. Decimal places we cannot.
The other half of the cost question is how you get out of one, which is on our guide to cancelling a Replika subscription.
A worked example of how a token meter turns a $9.99 plan into a bigger bill is on the Infatuated AI token breakdown.
If the comparison you are really making is against a ChatGPT subscription you already pay for, it is on our Replika vs ChatGPT breakdown.

For the specific case of an app that charges in gems rather than a flat plan, see what changes when there is no balance to top up.
Every companion app lists as free on the App Store, which we unpick in what the App Store listings actually show.
A flat plan only helps if nothing else is metered, which is the whole test on AI girlfriend apps with unlimited messages.
The longer version of this argument, including what you are really paying for when a plan is more expensive, is in our breakdown of what an AI girlfriend costs.
Flat subscription or credits: the difference that decides your bill
There are only two pricing structures in this market, and picking the right one matters more than saving two dollars on the headline tier.
A flat subscription unlocks everything for one monthly amount. Your bill is identical in a quiet week and in a week where you talk every night. You can forecast it, and you never think about the cost while you are typing.
A credit, coin or token model charges a smaller monthly fee and then bills each expensive action separately: generating an image, rendering a voice note, sometimes simply continuing a long conversation. It looks cheaper on the pricing page. It behaves like a taxi meter. The nights you most want to keep talking are exactly the nights it costs the most, and people routinely report spending several times the advertised tier once they are actually using the thing.
- Flat plan: one number, no counting, predictable every month
- Credit plan: low entry price, variable and often much higher real cost
- Hybrid: a subscription that still meters images, video or voice separately
- Watch for auto top-up, which quietly refills a coin balance without asking
Why every AI girlfriend pricing article shows different numbers
This confuses people, and it has a straightforward explanation. Most of these vendors keep pricing behind the signup wall, so writers cannot cite a source page. Numbers get copied between articles, and each copy ages a little more.
On top of that, apps in this category rebrand and re-price unusually often. A domain that pointed at one product last year points at a different one now, and the review written in between still ranks. We watched exactly that happen with the GirlfriendGPT name, where the two obvious domains now resolve to two different companies.
Regional pricing adds a third layer. App store tiers differ by country, and an annual plan quoted as a monthly equivalent is not the same as a month to month price.
The clearest worked example of a brand splitting in two, with the redirects we resolved ourselves, is on our GirlfriendGPT pricing page.
Is there a genuinely free AI girlfriend?
There are free tiers, which is not the same as a free trial. A free tier is a permanently limited version: shorter memory, slower replies, daily message caps, ads, or a queue at peak times. It is designed to show you what you are missing rather than to let you evaluate the paid product.
A real trial gives you the paid experience for a fixed window. Those are rarer here than you would expect. If you want to judge an app properly, the thing to test is memory over several days, because that is the feature that separates a companion from a chatbot and the one a capped free tier hides best.
If you want to try the texting first without paying anything, you can try an AI girlfriend at no cost and judge how she writes before any of this matters.
How to work out your real monthly cost in ten minutes
Do this before you enter a card anywhere, including here.
First, find the pricing screen and check whether there is a separate store for coins, credits, gems or tokens. If there is, the subscription is not your cost, it is your entry fee. Second, work out what one image, one voice note and one long evening actually consume, then multiply by how often you would realistically do that in a month. Third, check whether the advertised monthly figure assumes an annual commitment, which is extremely common. Fourth, look for auto top-up and turn it off.
If that exercise produces a number you are not comfortable with, a flat plan at a higher sticker price is usually cheaper in practice than a metered plan at a lower one.
- Is there a coin, credit or token store separate from the plan?
- Is the advertised monthly price conditional on paying for a year?
- What does one image, one voice note and one long chat consume?
- Is auto top-up on by default, and can you switch it off?
- Can you cancel without contacting support?
What Gals.ai costs, and what you can buy today
We can be exact about our own numbers because they are on our pricing page rather than behind a signup.
Hello is $9 a month billed yearly, or $12 month to month. Sweetheart is $19 billed yearly, or $24 month to month, and adds voice notes. Soulmate is $39 billed yearly, or $49 month to month, and adds voice calls and multiple companions. There are no coins, no credits and no message counting on any plan, so the plan price is the whole cost.
One thing we will not do is imply you can pay us today. You cannot. Gals.ai is not selling subscriptions yet, joining puts you on the waitlist, and the figures above are the pricing we intend to launch with. We would rather tell you that plainly than run a pricing page that quietly fails at the checkout.
The full plan by plan breakdown, including what each tier includes, is on our pricing page.
If flat pricing with no message counting is the thing you actually want, that is also the argument in our guide for people who text all day.

AI girlfriend cost: what people ask
How much does an AI girlfriend cost?
Most paid plans run between $5 and $30 a month, and the tiers with real memory and voice usually land between $9 and $20. Credit-metered apps advertise less and cost more in practice. Gals.ai intends to launch at $9 a month billed yearly, with nothing metered.
How much does an AI girlfriend app cost per month?
Budget on $9 to $20 a month for an app with long-term memory that texts you first. Below that you are usually looking at a capped tier or a credit model, and above it you are typically paying for voice calls, multiple companions or image generation.
Are AI girlfriends worth the money?
They are worth it if you would use one most days, because the value compounds as her memory of you builds. As an occasional novelty they are poor value at any price. Judge it on whether you would text her on an ordinary Tuesday, not on the feature list.
Why do AI girlfriend apps cost so much more than advertised?
Because the advertised tier often buys access rather than usage. Images, voice notes and long conversations are billed separately from a coin or credit balance, so the real monthly figure depends on what you do rather than what you signed up for.
Is there a free AI girlfriend?
There are free tiers, which are permanently limited rather than time limited: shorter memory, message caps, slower replies. A genuinely free trial of a paid tier is rare in this category. Free tiers are fine for judging tone, poor for judging memory.
Do AI girlfriend apps have hidden costs?
Often, yes. The two to check are a separate store for coins or credits, and an advertised monthly price that actually requires paying for a full year. Auto top-up is the third, because it refills a spent balance without asking you again.
