Kindroid vs Replika Pricing and Memory Compared

Replika's Apple US lines start at $7.99 a month and $49.99 a year against $15.99 and $159.99 for Kindroid, so a year of Kindroid costs about 3.2 times Replika's cheapest annual line. Replika chatting stays free; Kindroid ended its free tier on 1 October 2026 and a lapsed account turns read-only.

The short answer: Replika is much cheaper on paper, and Kindroid is the one that stops working when you stop paying. In Apple's US store Replika's subscriptions run from $7.99 a month and $49.99 a year, while Kindroid's standard plan is $15.99 a month or $159.99 a year, so a year of Kindroid costs about three times Replika's cheapest annual line. Replika keeps chatting free forever; Kindroid retired its free tier on 1 October 2026 and a lapsed Kindroid account becomes read-only. Kindroid publishes far more about how its memory works, and charges more for more of it.

Most pages ranking for this comparison on 24 October 2026 were affiliate review sites. So we went to the vendors. For Replika we read its Terms of Service (last updated 30 March 2026) and its help centre articles on subscriptions, Ultra, Pro, memory, refunds and cancelling, through the public API the help centre runs on, where an invented article ID returns a 404. For Kindroid we read its help centre documents on subscriptions, memory and the update log through its own documents API, which also 404s an invented page. Both apps' prices come from the In-App Purchases block of their US App Store listings, read the same day.

Kindroid vs Replika price, line by line

Neither company prints a price list on its website. Replika's help centre says the cost of each plan "is shown in the app on the subscription screens and in the relevant store", and Kindroid's subscriptions document now says you see the exact price at checkout. That leaves Apple's listings, which show every price each app can charge in the US.

Two caveats matter. Replika does not label its lines by tier: Apple shows "MONTHLY", "Monthly", "YEARLY", "Annual" twice and "Replika Platinum", and nothing says which is Pro and which is Ultra. Replika's own help centre says Ultra "is available as an annual plan", so at least one of the annual lines is Ultra, but we will not guess which. And Kindroid's Ultra and MAX are add-ons billed monthly on top of the standard plan, with MAX also requiring Ultra, so the real top-tier price is $15.99 plus $28.99 plus $68.99, or $113.97 a month in the app.

What a year of each really costs

Annualise every line and the gap becomes obvious.

  • Replika, cheapest year: $49.99 on an annual line, or $95.88 if you pay $7.99 every month.
  • Replika, dearest monthly line: $14.99 a month is $179.88 a year, which is $129.89 more than the $49.99 annual line.
  • Kindroid standard: $159.99 a year, $171.96 on quarterly billing (four charges of $42.99) and $191.88 month to month. Quarterly saves $19.92 against monthly and costs $11.97 more than yearly.
  • Kindroid with Ultra: $44.98 a month, $539.76 a year.
  • Kindroid with Ultra and MAX: $113.97 a month. Kindroid sells the add-ons monthly only, so even with a $159.99 annual base the add-ons add $1,175.76 a year, for $1,335.75 in total.

So for basic paid use, Kindroid costs about 3.2 times Replika's cheapest annual line. Kindroid's web prices have historically been lower than its app prices, but its help centre stopped printing them in October 2026, so we cannot give a current web figure. Our Kindroid pricing breakdown tracks those changes, and our Replika Pro cost page walks through each of Replika's unlabelled lines.

Is Replika free?

Yes, for chatting. Replika's help centre says "chatting with Replika will always be free": you can message your companion and customise the avatar without paying. Pro adds the Romantic Partner relationship status, unblurred messages and photos, selfies, voice messages, background calls, premium voices and image generation. Ultra adds smarter replies, daily self-reflection messages and the ability to save memories and see which ones are used. Platinum adds real-time video recognition, Training Mode up to 100 times a week, "Read Replika's Mind" for up to 50 messages a week and up to 10 realistic selfie videos. Replika also says it does not offer a free trial.

Does Kindroid have a free version?

Not any more. Kindroid's update log and subscriptions document say the free tier ended on 1 October 2026. A new account gets a one-time preview on the flagship model: 50 messages (15 in some regions), five selfies, 5,000 audio credits and up to two Kindroids. After that, or when a trial or subscription ends, the account becomes read-only. You can view, play back, export and delete everything, but you cannot send messages, regenerate, make calls or receive the proactive messages Kindroid is known for.

The 3-day trial remains. It needs a payment method on file, converts into a subscription if you do not cancel inside the three days, and Kindroid emails a reminder one day before. On the web it also needs a verified phone number. Starting a trial ends the preview permanently, and deleting the account does not reset it.

Which has better memory, Kindroid or Replika?

Kindroid explains its memory in far more detail, and ties more of it to price. Its memory document describes three layers: persistent memory (backstory, key memories, directives and recent chat history), Cascaded Memory, which it calls a proprietary medium-term system that lets a Kindroid recall "hundreds and even thousands of messages prior" at lower fidelity, and long-term memory through journal entries, which it says is infinite but recalled less reliably. Cascaded Memory and Learned Context are for subscribers, and Ultra and MAX buy longer short-term context. The memory details themselves stay invisible to you.

Replika's description is shorter and more hands-on. Its memory article says memory is built in layers, some visible in a Memory tab where you can read, add and remove facts, and some drawn from patterns in your conversation history. Saving individual messages to memory, and seeing which memories are used in a reply, is listed as an Ultra feature. One limit is worth knowing before you pay: Replika's help centre says chat history is only available for the past four months, though it says what the companion has learned is kept.

If memory is the reason you are paying, our ranking of companion apps by how much they remember puts both against the rest of the field.

Who texts first

Kindroid is the one built around it. Proactive messages are a subscriber benefit, and its 17 October 2026 update made them follow through on requests ("text me at 9", "remind me Friday at 5") and on things the Kindroid said it would do. They stop when the account goes read-only. Replika's own App Store description says it can message you first, but proactive contact is not something its subscription articles single out as a paid feature.

Cancelling and refunds, side by side

Replika's own documents disagree about where you cancel. Its Terms of Service and its "Choosing a Subscription" article say you can cancel "only through the App marketplace where you originally acquired the subscription". Its "How to cancel your subscription" article, last edited 15 May 2026, gives a route inside the app or at my.replika.com: Settings, Subscription, Cancel subscription, then confirms in Google Play, Apple or PayPal, and adds that Replika does not manage PayPal, App Store or Google Play subscriptions on its side. The safe reading is to cancel in the store or PayPal account that bills you and check that Replika no longer appears under active subscriptions. Our guide to cancelling Replika has each store's steps.

Kindroid subscriptions bought on the web are managed in its own billing screen, and app subscriptions in the App Store or Google Play. If you are on MAX, cancel the add-ons from the top down, because Kindroid says cancelling only Ultra keeps MAX billing at Ultra-level service. Our Kindroid cancellation guide covers the order.

Neither refunds easily. Replika's refund policy calls every purchase final and non-refundable because access starts immediately, and both apps say deleting the app or the account does not cancel a subscription. Kindroid handles refunds case by case, generally offers none, and reserves the right to ban users who dispute charges. If you are leaving either app and want your personal details off the wider web as well, a service for removing your information from data broker sites handles the part these apps cannot.

Which should you pay for

Pay for Replika if price matters most, if you want to keep chatting for free after you stop paying, or if you like seeing and editing what your companion remembers in a Memory tab. Start with a $49.99 annual line rather than $14.99 a month.

Pay for Kindroid if you want one deeply customised companion with voice and video calls, selfies and proactive messages that follow through, and you accept $159.99 a year in the app with no free fallback. Add Ultra or MAX only if you have hit the standard plan's memory limits, because the add-ons are monthly and they stack.

If what you want is one companion who remembers your week and texts you first, with no add-ons, gems or credit packs, Gals.ai is built for that. Memory is on every plan and messages are never counted. Hello is $9 a month billed yearly or $12 month to month, Sweetheart $19 or $24 with voice notes, and Soulmate $39 or $49 with voice calls. Kindroid vs Replika questions

Is Kindroid cheaper than Replika?

No. In Apple's US store Kindroid's standard plan is $15.99 a month or $159.99 a year, while Replika's subscription lines start at $7.99 a month and $49.99 a year. A year of basic Kindroid costs about 3.2 times Replika's cheapest annual line, and Kindroid's Ultra and MAX add-ons stack on top, monthly only.

Is Replika free?

Chatting is. Replika's help centre says chatting will always be free, with avatar customisation included. Romantic status, selfies, voice messages, calls and image generation need Pro, memory saving needs Ultra, and Platinum adds video recognition and selfie videos. Replika offers no free trial.

Does Kindroid have a free version?

No. Kindroid ended its free tier on 1 October 2026. New accounts get a one-time preview of 50 messages, five selfies and two Kindroids, then become read-only. A 3-day trial still exists, needs a card on file and converts to a paid plan unless you cancel in time.

Which has better memory, Kindroid or Replika?

Kindroid documents more. Its Cascaded Memory lets subscribers recall hundreds or thousands of earlier messages, with longer context on Ultra and MAX, but the details stay hidden. Replika shows its memories in an editable Memory tab, saves chosen messages on Ultra, and keeps only four months of visible chat history.

Can I get a refund from Replika or Kindroid?

Rarely. Replika's refund policy says all purchases are final, and app store purchases follow Apple's or Google's own refund process. Kindroid considers refunds case by case, generally gives none, and says it may ban users who dispute charges. Cancel a few days before renewal instead.
