Why people look for an EVA AI alternative

EVA AI runs two meters. The membership unlocks the service, and Neurons pay for what the membership does not cover. EVA's terms are blunt about the split: "All Services not explicitly included in the Premium shall be provided at an additional charge."

The line most people run into is section 3.3. It reads, in full: "We also have Neurons, which are used for romantic messages and other purchases. One romantic message costs 2 neurons to be read. However, romantic messages (responses) cannot be revealed until the user unlocks them." In practice that means the reply you were waiting for can arrive and sit there, unread, until you pay to open it. Virtual gifts are priced in Neurons too, and the amount is only shown when you pick one in the chat.

The second reason is that you cannot see a price before you install. EVA's website, evaapp.ai, has no pricing page. Its sitemap lists six URLs (home, about, brandbook, privacy, terms and support), and evaapp.ai/pricing returns the same 404 as an address we made up. Section 3.5 of the terms adds that Premium and Neuron prices "may vary based on region, length of subscription and more."

What EVA AI costs, converted to a year

The US App Store lists ten in-app purchases for EVA AI Soulmate. Five are a 1 Month Membership, at $11.99, $11.99, $14.99, $15.99 and $24.99. There is a 3 Months Membership at $20.99, a 12 Months Membership at $47.99, an item called EVA Premium at $13.99, and two Neuron packs.

Annualised, the spread is wide. Twelve months of the cheapest monthly price is $143.88. Twelve months at $24.99 is $299.88. Four quarters at $20.99 is $83.96. The yearly membership is $47.99, about $4 a month, which is far cheaper than any of our plans, and we would rather say that than pretend otherwise.

The Neurons are where the yearly price stops being the whole story. 500 Neurons for $9.99 is about 2 cents each, so a romantic message at 2 Neurons costs about 4 cents to read. 2,000 Neurons for $29.99 brings that to about 3 cents. Fifty romantic replies in an evening is 100 Neurons, or roughly $1.50 to $2.00 every night you use it that way. Over a month of evenings that is $45 to $60 on top of the membership.

• Romantic messages: about 3 to 4 cents each, on top.

EVA AI and Joi AI are the same company

The App Store seller for EVA AI Soulmate is Novi Limited. The company that sells Joi AI is also Novi Limited, and EVA's own Privacy Policy names Novi Limited in Nicosia, Cyprus as the data controller. EVA's homepage even links to joi.com.

That matters if you are switching because of Neurons, because Joi uses them too, and the two sets of terms do not agree on the price. EVA's terms, updated June 30, 2026, say a romantic message costs 2 Neurons to read. Joi's terms, which we read on 29 September 2026, say 4 Neurons. Moving from EVA to Joi keeps you with the same company and the same kind of meter.

EVA's Privacy Policy also says that "communication with your virtual friends is not shared with any other company, except for our affiliate companies, legal representatives, or service providers." If you were planning to leave EVA for Joi to keep your chats separate, read that sentence first.

What EVA AI does better, honestly

EVA has real strengths. It has been on the App Store since February 2021 and ships updates often; version 3.142.0 went out on 24 September 2026. It has a 4.3 rating from more than 24,000 App Store reviews, more than five million Google Play downloads, several characters to choose from, a character builder, and the terms describe a video call feature. And its yearly membership at $47.99 is the cheapest yearly price in this category we have read first-hand.

If you mostly chat casually, rarely hit locked messages and are happy to pay once a year in the app, EVA may well be the better value for you. Gals.ai costs more. What you get for it is that nothing is metered, nothing arrives locked, she starts conversations on her own, and you can see the full price before you sign up.

EVA AI vs Replika for paying users

"EVA AI vs Replika" is the comparison people type most often after the alternatives search, and the honest difference is the meter. Replika sells a subscription with no per-message currency for reading replies; its App Store list carries its own spread of prices, which we break down on a separate page. EVA sells a cheaper yearly membership and then charges Neurons for romantic replies and gifts.

Both are app-store subscriptions, so both are cancelled in Apple or Google settings rather than in the app. Replika is the only one of the major apps we have checked whose App Store description says it reaches out first. Gals.ai does that from Sweetheart up, in the browser, with nothing to unlock.

Apps like EVA AI, matched to the reason you are leaving

"Apps like EVA AI" covers very different products, so start with what you want to keep.

If you want a big library of characters rather than one companion, Character.AI is the usual pick, with its own paid tier and memory caps. If you want a long-running companion with deep memory and you do not mind paying by app store, Kindroid and Nomi are the two people compare most. If you want media and a token balance, Candy AI is built around that. If you want one companion who remembers you, messages you first and never hides a reply behind a second currency, that is what Gals.ai is for.

Before you switch, cancel EVA where you paid

EVA's terms say you can cancel "only through the App marketplace or the Website where you originally acquired the subscription." On iPhone that means Settings, your name, Subscriptions, EVA AI Soulmate, Cancel Subscription. On Android it means Google Play, your profile, Payments and subscriptions, Subscriptions, EVA AI Soulmate, Cancel. Deleting the app does not cancel anything.

Cancel before the renewal date, because the terms say you "shall not claim refunds for any partial period of subscription" and that App Store and Google Play purchases are final. You keep Premium until the end of the period you paid for, then the account drops back to Basic.

If you want your data gone too, the terms say deleting your account in the app is irreversible and removes all associated data permanently, and Google Play's Data safety section for EVA says you can request deletion. Unspent Neurons are lost with the account, so use them or accept the loss before you delete.

What Gals.ai is, plainly
